A few very-high-end guns (gas guns and paintball markers) use ball valve, which is sort of a one-quarter turn valve. It has quite literally a ball placed in a passage through the gas flow. The ball has a hole through it, which is for opening and closing the valve. When the hole is running in the same direction as the channel, gas can pass through, and vice versa.
