For mechbox (V2 mechbox in particular) which has the motor wires passing through the bottom of the shell, it is always a good idea to use protective tubes (those black soft rubber tubes commonly in use for protecting wire joints) to protect the sections that are closed to the motor shaft and the pinion. Generally speaking, when the wires are properly positioned in the shell and that the motor is properly inserted into the pistol grip, the wires would have little chance to get damaged. However, during the installation process the wires often get in the way of the motor and unnoticed damage may result.
