Semi-auto shooting is achieved mechanically (which automatically releases the movable block back to the original position). Frequent single shot can make the blocks and the mechanical parts worn away faster than usual. The spark generated every time both sides got in touch could also produce damage. Poorer trigger response time is one possible consequence when the two metal plates on the stationary block went further apart due to excessive movement.
