In the UK, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) set recommended lethality thresholds for airsoft guns:

  • Fully automatic or burst-fire capable guns: 1.3 joules (approximately 370 fps with a 0.2g BB).
  • Single-shot only (including semi-automatic): 2.5 joules (approximately 520 fps with a 0.2g BB).

Exceeding these limits could result in the airsoft gun being classified under more restrictive firearm categories.

Also, in terms of Air Weapon Storage Requirements (Effective from July 31, 2023), there are new rules mandate that air weapons must be stored securely to prevent access by individuals under 18.  Specifically, when not in use, air weapons should be:

  • Stored securely to prevent, as far as is reasonably practicable, access by persons under 18.
  • Kept out of sight of persons under 18.
  • Stored separately from compatible ammunition.
