To keep your AEG quieter, the key is to have adequate silencing foam (the white fibre used in your fish tank water filter or the BETTER gray packaging foam for packaging electronic cricult boards) stuffed into the receiver and wrapped around the mechbox. Based on our experience, there must be enough empty space between the mechbox and the surrounding receiver shell such that enough foam can be stuffed in to produce the necessary sound dampening effect. Guns like M4, MP5 and G3 don’t really have enough space in the receiver for this. AUG, L85 and FAMAS do, and you can cut down some 30 to 40% of the noise.

Nothing rocket science here, just stuff the foam in and do some testing to ensure that the foam does not get in the way of any moving parts (nozzle, switch plate …etc). If there are holes on the mechbox shell, block them with duct tape to make sure the foam won’t get inside (usually they won’t, but do it for your peace of mind).

We do not recommend that you “foam” the pistol grip that houses the motor. The reason is heat – the surrounding foam can hinder heat dissipation and is no good for your motor in hot weather.
