Tech Support FAQs - EU CDROM

Information here applies only to the GERMAN Edition of our CDROMs distributed through BEGADI.

Please store your CDROM package in a dry place.

If you fail to read the disc...

To troubleshoot disc read errors, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

  • Inspect the disc for visible deformation or substantial scratches. If the disc is damaged, obtain a replacement disc. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.

  • Clean the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. To do this, use a disc cleaning kit, or gently wipe the silver side of the disc with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use paper cloth which can scratch the plastic and leave streaks. When you clean the disc, wipe from the center of the disc outward. Do not use a circular motion. If the issue continues to occur, clean the disc with a damp cloth or a commercial CD or DVD cleaning solution. Dry the disc thoroughly before you insert it into the drive. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.

  • Try the CD-ROM or DVD disk in another drive. If the disc works in this test, then the problem may be with the original drive not properly reading the disc. Please seek help from your computer or disc drive manufacturer. If your computer has multiple CD-ROM, CD-R, CD/RW or DVD drives, test the disc in the other drive. Note that if you see the same issues with a replacement disc as with the original disc, proceed to the next method.

  • If cleaning the CD-ROM or DVD does not resolve the issue, clean the disc drive using a CD-ROM or DVD drive cleaning disc if you have one. Drive cleaning discs are available in most computer or home electronics stores. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.

  • Other applications may interfere with the reading of the disc, for example, anti-virus, firewall or anti-crash software. You should quit all visible programs that are currently running on your system and retry.

If you fail to open the PDF file...

ALWAYS SAVE THE PDF FILE INTO YOUR LOCAL HARD DRIVE FIRST BEFORE OPENING IT. IT IS NEVER RECOMMENDED THAT YOU OPEN THE FILE DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN OUTLOOK (ASSUMING OUTLOOK IS YOUR DEFAULT EMAIL SOFTWARE). OUTLOOK MAY HANG UP IF THE PDF FILE IS LARGE (ANYTHING OVER 1MB MAY BE TOO LARGE FOR OUTLOOK TO HANDLE WITHIN ITS INTERFACE).

We created the PDF file using Acrobat Exchange Ver 5.0. If your Acrobat reader is version 5.0 or above, you should have no problem opening the file. Of course, the latest version is always recommended. As of March 2005 the latest version is version 7  (the Acrobat Reader is always free from Adobe anyway - you may download it from Get Adobe Reader http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html ).

* Due to the variety of fonts installed on the users' systems, Acrobat may prompt you to download additional language component (which is FREE from Adobe anyway). Please click "YES" to allow Acrobat to perform the download.

If there are MANY blank pages or blank lines in the file...

Occasionally there are one or two pages that have been left blank due to page size adjustment along the PDF creation process. These one or two blank pages are "really blank" with no missing content.

However, if you encounter MANY blank pages in the file, this is a language component issue. If you are using Acrobat Reader Version 6 or above, when you scroll through the pages one by one, Acrobat will prompt you to download a Traditional Chinese language component. Go ahead and download it, then the issue will be resolved.

If you fail to print out the pages correctly...

Please change your printer's settings and adjust the output paper size. You may need to switch between A4 and US Letter in order to correctly print.

If you can't print the book / it stops printing at a certain page...

Try restarting your computer and printer. If that doesn't work.... from within the Acrobat Reader (make sure you have the latest version), go to File, Click Print, then down in the middle where it says "Print Range" fill in Pages from with about 20 or 30 pages (example 45-75). Try printing the book out chapter by chapter.

If you find errors in the contents...

Please submit your errata.

For your best protection, all of our outgoing emails are thoroughly scanned by a dedicated anti-virus software.
